The Alaskan Ascent – a 70mile Quest for First Ascents
Many great mountain trips begin with a dream, countless nights of research, hours of training and months of preparations. Yeaaah, we didnβt do that.
With about three days prep, Cameron Jardell, a Juneau Alaska local, and Vinny 2 Crocs, from Squamish BC, teamed up for a 76 mile glacier traverse across the Juneau Icefield, from the US to Canada, on a quest for rock climbing first ascents.
Loaded up with Costcoβs finest previsions, 5lbs of pre-cooked bacon and two decked-out plastic kiddy sleds, the morning of July 9th, 2023 saw the two of us Heli into Death Valley on the edge of the Juneau Icefield.
Twas never our intent to make a video about this silly odyssey, but upon landing on the glacier, Vince noticed Cam holding his outdated phone horizontally, to which he said: “Wait…are we making a movie about this?”. Cam: “I mean, why not?”. To Vinny’s cinematic cameraless chagrin, this film was made.
